  1. When viewing the blog for this week the first thing that should be noticed is the header. When I saw the header I understood what the blog should be about by the title but the pictures confused me. They looked more like pictures that would be hanging in a hair salon to model different styles and colors, not to promote and discourage abortion. The next thing I noticed about the blog was the lack of comments on the articles that were submitted by the administration. There were some articles that were extremely long, which personally I think they would scare away an audience. Most people come to a blog to be informed about something not to read a book about it. There also seemed to be a very large gap in the entries the last entry was on March 30, 2011 and the one before that was May 8, 2010 almost a full year of inactivity. It makes you wonder how dedicated the author is to making their point. Yet another thing I noticed about this blog was in to top toolbar there is an option where you can submit a post. This first triggered me to think that the ethos of this blog was questionable is anyone could post. But then I continued to read and they have set very strict guidelines that the articles should follow and they also have the authority to accept or deny any posts. So just because someone posts an article does not mean it will be accepted and submitted. The last thing that I found interesting about this blog was the PayPal link in the right hand column. It states that the 1800blogger is a profit organization and if you send money it will be used for working capital for Abortion Blog and 1800blogger.

  2. I completely agree with Tiffany on the fact that the first images you see, the banner of faces at the top has virtually nothing to do with abortion. I definitely think they could have chosen more meaningful pictures or images pertaining to abortion. I do, however, like how clear the title ABORTION BLOG is and the words underneath the title. The simple clean writing and the fact that the words are written in white really make them stand out.
As I scrolled down through the website I found that there is A LOT of writing. A lot of writing means a lot of information though so the blog does do a good job of informing readers of different issues surrounding abortion. I also noticed there are a lot of videos. I think that it is a good thing the videos are there because they are more interesting to visitors to the site who do not want to read all that is posted. Instead of reading the lengthy articles, viewers can watch a short video clip.
I found it interesting that almost all the articles have zero comments. After reading through the “about” tab I saw that a lot of this blog is written by “the best bloggers in the world” according to them. If the blog really is written by the best writers you would think it would have more popularity and more interest and comments by readers.
In conclusion I do think the blog “does something” because there is a lot of information about all different things related to abortion. The blog sticks to topic too unlike other blogs we have previously seen.

  3. These are great observations Tiffany and Abbey! It's true that the pictures do not seem to directly relate to the topic. Good Job!

  4. Once I visited the abortion blog website, I also didn’t observe any explicit signs that this is an abortion blog at all. Aside from the blatant “Abortion Blog”, there isn’t really any indication. However, the blog layout and color scheme are very professional and well done. The blog isn’t confusing and all the navigation is easy to use. Furthermore, all the posts seem to be full of content and information, whether it is text or videos. There aren’t any unnecessary posts or short publications. It’s a shame that these comprehensive posts have very little discussion about them comment wise. Although the website did have a moment of inactivity from the administrator, the blog itself seems to be effective in informing and furthering abortion activism.

  5. When I first visited this blog, the first thing I clicked on was the "About" section. I think that this section really helped to describe the ethos of this blog. They described what their purpose for blogging was as well as what kind of people are contributing to this site. After reading this small introduction, it really made me trust the contributers of this blog. It seems very credible. The home page of the blog contains a lot of writing. I found this to be both good and bad. Good because the writers seem to be educated as well as know what they are talking about. Bad because long article are not always appealing to the reader. There weren't many comments on the blog posts. I found this very surprising because of the very disputable topic of this blog. I imagined there to be loads of comments containing opinions and arguments but this did not seem to be true. The blog is also not updated regularly which I did not like. Overall, it was an okay blog that was interesting to look at but not one I would continuously visit.

  6. I completely agree with both Tiffany and Abbey. The title of the blog is clear but the pictures do not seem to fit with the topic. Theh blogs are too long, and I also feel as though that would scare a reader away. I know it did me, I do not want to sit here and read a long post. It was informational, but entirely too long. The inactivity was also a no no for me. I do not think that the author is very dedicated to this site, and it also questions the credibility of it as well.

  7. actually, this blog indeed give me enough information about abortion that i did not know before. first, i like the video, accurately a slideshow, which shows the process of fetus growth. i thought it emphasizing the value of them in front of viewers and let them know although they are not born yet, they are still all alive as human beings. from this consideration, maybe people would more concerned with abortion problems after they see the slideshow. also, bloggers highlight the key words of this blog which include that from articles or date. it is really make me feel better because i hate to see crowded words that will make me dizzy and have no mood to continuing reading. moreover, there are many videos in articles as well and it is really suitable for a video fan who does not like reading, like me. however, i found almost no people left comments there and it cannot attract other visitors to leave any because they cannot find anyone to engaged in discussion. on the other hand, it also indicates that maybe the content of the blog cannot appeal to majority of readers. the last thing i want to mention is the layout of this blog, the color is so dark that can hardly stress the title. the photos appear besides the title also confused me. it is all seems lack of focal point. overall, if the blog would be improved to a more popular level, maybe i will come to visit frequently.

  8. Abortionblog.net is a well laid out blog page about the issue of abortion. From the first glance, one can see that the page was well thought out and seems very inviting to the visitor. The page has the same basic layout as most, if not all, of the other blog sites that we have looked at. On the left, and taking up two thirds of the page, are the blog posts from mainly one author only known as Admin. On the right side of the page is a column that includes a search bar, recent comments, archives, and other information about the blog. The posts themselves seem to be very well written and time was even taken to cite where the information was taken from. Posts are not simple introductions to articles on the web, but rather they seem to be written almost like a research paper, with citations and well thought out ideas, but not as formal. The author of these posts seems very well educated and thus the ethos of the site is very well achieved and maintained.

  9. Thank you for the good comments about the abortion blog. There are many constructive pros and cons here. It seems many people agree about the unrelated pictures on the headline. Love to know that some people enjoy reading the articles and think they are educative and well written. We are eager to read more feedbacks. Keep the comments posted.

  10. When I first visited abortion blog, the first thing I noticed was the header. It jumped right out at you and despite how some people say the people did not really work, I beg to differ; to me all the people symbolized that everyone can be effected by abortion and there is not just one face to the issue of abortion, there are many. After further exploring the website, I found out that there was a lot of information on their website. This proves that this blog does a lot of research and wants to put all sorts of information about abortion including the good and the bad. I also liked how the blog is not just one sided but wants to inform the public of all the information about abortion and they definitely accomplish this goal. I especially enjoyed the pictures all over the blog; they were large and made me want to click on the video or read the article. Overall, this blog does a great job and accomplishes its goal.

  11. Abortionblog.net is a very interesting BlogSpot. There are many videos and potential information that the site contains, but it lacks organization and clarity. Many of the videos seem to point towards the cons of abortion and how it negatively affects patients, survivors and doctors. The information is easy to follow but seems to be potentially misleading. Many of the articles seem to hint that they are pro-life rather than pro-choice. They hint this through the information and the titles about the articles or videos. For example, there is a video entitled, “Two Disturbing Videos-And They Call Themselves Doctors!” This title seems to hint that the person who posted them seems to believe that they do not deserve to be called doctors because of their profession and that they kill unborn children, therefore they seem to be pro-life. I also noticed that the articles and videos on the blog do not seem to be updated very well. It is true that the last article was fairly recent being posted on March 30 2011, but the following videos were posted in May of 2010. When referring to the organization of the site, it seems very jumbled and unorganized as mentioned previously. It does not have any headings, or subtitles in order to guide the audience through the site and find any information that they are looking for in particular. The only thing the website offers is a directory that offers archives by date. Moreover, the site is very bland and seems to have very few followers. When looking at the comments for all of the videos and articles there seem to be no comments on the articles and videos. This could be because abortion seems to be losing interest in a lot of people because it has been an issue for so long, or because the site is just not attracting any viewers.
Overall, the blog is appealing and the articles are easy to read, informational and somewhat interesting. The blog needs to have some sort of hook to attract viewers and followers. It needs to be organized better and should have a better directory, but overall it seems to be a successful blog.

  12. When I first came to the site abortionblog.net, the first thing I noticed was the banner across the top of the page. Yes, it stood out because of the dark colors and bold text. But I was not impressed at all. I do not understand what the image is in the background, meaning it does not speak a clear and bold message what so ever. Also, the photos are very outdated pictures that look more like modeling pictures than images speaking the message of abortion. As I scrolled through the posts, I was pleased to see so many video links, ranging from interviews to advertisements to autobiographies. But what I also noticed was how lengthy and wordy all the posts were. Right off the bat, I had no interest in actually reading any of the posts.
Overall, I was not that pleased with the blog. I think that if the posts were shorter and more to the point, then the site would actually get comments back. Just under a year passed between the first two posts, which sends the message that whoever is behind the blog may not be extremely passionate about the topic. So how are the viewers supposed to feel the emotion of the site?

  13. At first, I was bored by the long articles that were extremely biased. It was difficult to stay focused on one article. This site is definitely for pro-life supporters. I considered myself slightly pro choice, but the forcefulness of this website made me less interested in the content. The overall website was very well organized. However again, the disclaimer was very honest and persuasive. It does not insure the articles will be completely accurate. It also tells people not to base their decisions on this blog. The about section informs the reader that only 10-20% of the articles are written by their writers. But then I stumbled upon this video, which was discussing murder of the pregnant woman and abortion. The video showed news clips of murderers being charged for two people when the woman was pregnant. However, it mentioned that abortion was not counted as murder. This clip also had an excerpt from the movie Zoolander. This clip added humor, but slightly took away from the ethos. This entry was entitled “The Difference between Killing a Wanted Fetus and an Unwanted Fetus”. This blog also strays away from the abortion theme. In the entry “Observations in the World We Live in April 2010”, it talks about topics such as an anti- abortion ad to expensive tuition. I believe this article makes the blog site more reliable, because it is opinionated but also asks the reader to evaluate situations.

  14. personally, when I first looked at the blog, my immediate reaction was "holy crap this is long". The layout really turned me off. The title was very clear and to the point which I liked, but the pictures didn't relate very well. Also the boring greyish color as the background and on the sides next to the white text boxes were very unappealing. The fact that they didn't shorten the page and add a number of pages containing the articles but rather chose to make one enormously long and narrow page was a real turn off as a reader. I had no interest in reading and navigating through the blog based on these first impressions which is a red flag for bloggers. However I do like the incorporation of video clips and I like the menu buttons at the top. The menu is easy to navigate and clear what the links are for and are very helpful. I also like the aspect that they give you the option to submit your own post. This is a great tool to include the audience and allow them to participate. However an issue that may occur are bogus posts being made that may hinder the ethos of the overall blog.

  15. Great comments! It seems that a few people think this blog is too long and can not hold the interest of the readers. What could have made this blog better and more interesting to you? Also, for those who criticized the header, what would have been a more appropriate image for this blog? We would love to discuss your answers in class!

  16. The pictures chosen for the banner of this blog did not seem too go with my first impression of an abortion blog. I felt that the layout was very different and long, so seeing it for the first time had me thinking this is going to take for ever. A lot of the article titles on the blog did catch my eye. Overall I would definitely that this is a good blog but when first seeing it; it needs to grab the viewers attention with every picture that is displayed.
Though I am personal against abortions I now have an clear understanding that their are women that choose to do what ever they want to do to their bodies and unborn child and it is their RIGHT.
