I found this website to be extremely informational and inspiring. With all my might, I wish I could go as green as possible, but being a college student, it’s hard work. I think about the awful amount of paper towels wasted from washing hands every day, the unneeded load of electricity that we all carelessly use when no one’s in the room, and especially the glass bottles and plastic containers that go straight into the “trash” can instead of the “recycle” can. That is why I’m attracted to this website. It offers you endless possibilities on aiding you in “going green”. However, the posts are nothing extremely drastic, they’re simple everyday changes that anyone, even a college student, could achieve.
ReplyDeleteThe layout of the website was what I expected: green colors and a sort of fresh feeling. I like that it’s simple and easy to navigate. There aren’t posts from every single day, and I also noticed that there isn’t an option to leave comments, but there are links to contact them and even a glossary with environmental-friendly terms.
I really like that the blog site can be something for everyone. As well as the category “family”, you are provided with tons of do-it-yourself ideas and simple methods to get just a little greener, and some of the posts are even just informing you with environmental facts. I believe they took this approach to be able to include a larger audience, more particularly, the audience of Chicago. Chicago, being the busy, windy, business city that it is, it’s true that it must be rather hard to go green in the pace that they live in. In conclusion, this website does an excellent job at advertising tips, ideas and more to help inform us of the environment and its changes, little by little, and blog by blog. I would definitely come back to this site to look for manageable ideas to help me go green.
Thanks Laura! I really enjoyed reading your comment.
ReplyDeleteThat is a green blog for sure, both the color and the content. I really like this website because going green is becoming more and more important for our planet.
ReplyDeleteTwo blogs really catch my eyes. One of them is "Earth hour 2011". During the final week of the last quarter, I went to the Smith Lab for study. It was a quiet building with only a few people in. However, what I found was that most rooms were bright including two empty lecture rooms. Another fact in OSU is that the main library is closed on 0:00 every day, but the lights are not going to be turned off after people leave.
Another blog is“Most Bike Friendly Cities”. Using manpower transportation is a very good way of going green. What I think is that “110 miles of on-street bike lanes”in Chicago is still far away from enough. Riding bike is not very easy. Firstly, the car drivers are not very happy to share the road with the bike riders. I saw a man kept tooting to a bike in front of him on High Street because he thought the bike was too slow. A bike is supposed to be slower than a car! Besides, it is a bike way. The go green blog may be a good way to solve these kinds of problems. It can make more people not only accept green but join in the activity. Like Turning off the lights when leaving and being patient of a bike speed, a little change on our attitude can make the earth more beautiful.
Personally from living in Chicago I would have to agree with you; riding a bike is a bit difficult. However, Thank you so much for your comment!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I opened the page thegogreenblog.com I was pleasantly surprised. This is more of how I expected a blog to look, compared to last week’s feministing blog. The first thing that pops out at the viewer is the color green which is obviously perfect. The top banner of the blog has green hills with flowers, trees, and energy efficient windmills, all against a light blue background. This is a very friendly picture to first see when you access the page and it is very welcoming. Across the top there are categories to click on, such as eco-products, energy, environment, family etc. This makes the blog very user-friendly and it is much more organized than last week’s blog in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI don’t necessarily feel that there is any explicit information on the blog, but rather it implicitly suggests interesting little blurbs to get readers more interested in the articles. The way the blog is organized and the list of topics at the top of the page simply suggest ways to get involved in the green movement by doing even the littlest of things. I think that because the blog is not overpowering and overly stating ideas that more people will be attracted to the blog because it is not “shoving the green movement down your throat” as Daniel stated in class on Thursday. It is rather providing resources to the public on how to become greener in simple, every day tasks. I also believe the blog appeals to people of all ages, because there is a section for “Family” and “Green crafts”.
This blog has a ton of information on it. From recent news articles, to politics I definitely think the blog does something. If people stumble upon the blog, I think it will definitely affect people’s knowledge and values because there is so much information on it and the blog is very user-friendly.
The preliminary appearance of the blog site thegogreenblog.com is very professional. This helps create ethos and establish credibility with the viewers. The site’s all white background with green trimming gives a very clean appearance that represents the goals of “going green” such as reducing waste and promoting a clean environment. The use of the color green also relates to the “go green” movement simply because it is a very common color in nature. The top of the page also has a drawing of rolling hills, a blue sky, a stream, trees, flowers, and wind mills. This drawing implies that if the world used an alternate source of energy such as windmills, the world would look clean and beautiful as in the drawing. The logo found next to the name of the site is a leaf which also refers to the concept of “unity with nature” promoted by the green movement.
ReplyDeleteOn the very top of the page, the site gives three links to separate parts of the site. The first is the blog section. This section is further broken up into subcategories such as eco products, energy, environment, healthy eating, politics, and recycling. This makes the website user friendly and may increase the likeliness that the viewer will use the site again. With a quick glimpse it can be seen that all the articles relate to the green movement in some way or another. Another user friendly aspect of the website is that none of the articles are very long and it includes numerous videos. This is useful to catching the eye of a person who is just scrolling down the page looking for something interesting and quick to read. The site also includes links for green products and green services under the market and directory sections. This is very useful to the person who would like to further their knowledge on the green movement or take action and buy into the movement.
Overall, the design of this website is very clean and user friendly. Without reading any articles it seems like a very reliable source of information. Implicitly, this site gives the impression that if we do go green the world will be a more beautiful place, as suggested through the color scheme, logo, and picture. It also suggests that through its modern design that going “green” is the way of the future.
Funny how simply going to thegogreenblog.com can be enough to brighten your day. I love the vibrancy and the energy that comes from the layout of the site. It is bright and well organized and allows the viewer to either browse through the posts or locate articles under specific categories such as green crafts, healthy eating, and recycling. The viewer can receive more specific information by using the Green Directory, which directs you to topic specific articles on other sites such as eco-friendly gifts, fashion, and vehicles. I agree with Emory that this website does a great job of expressing ethos because the theme keeps it fun and modern, yet professional and organized.
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked most about the website was that the articles were short and easy to read and the titles were incredibly eye catching, with the bright, bold colors and the catchy names. My favorite article was titled “Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs” and it talked all about how you can use household spices and vegetables to make your own dye instead of using the harsh chemicals found in egg dying kits. I think this is an awesome way to teach kids how to have fun while still feeling good about the products they are using, showing them a “cool magic trick” of turning water purple by boiling cabbage. Who would have guessed?
¬I have to admit personally I am far from a “go-greener”, but I do like learning new and easy ways to help out the environment. Being in college and living in the dorms it seems like there is only so much you can do like use your recycling basket and turn your electronics off when you are not in your room, but in all honesty are those two little things helping out that much. After looking more at this blog it made me realize more that when you do a lot of little things they all add up. I especially noticed how easy it is to help when I read the article about the Earth Hour. All it takes to help is turning off your electronics for a measly hour and if you get all of your friends to do it to look at how much you are helping. I really enjoyed this blog because it is not trying to shove “going green” down your throat. Instead, they are just suggesting simple do it yourself ideas of how you can help the environment. I also really enjoyed the article on natural dyed Easter Eggs. I love dying eggs as a kid. Between my brother and sister and I, we would dye at least a dozen eggs a piece and take them to our family get-togethers for Easter. But one thing I always noticed was how the dye would sometimes change the color of the egg on the inside. After reading this article it kind of makes me sick that I was eating eggs soaked in toxic dyes. This DIY tip to a common household activity during Easter is a great way to not only help the environment but also to teach your family or children how they can help the environment too. I think that this blog is contagious, because once you read one article you keep reading on to more and who knows maybe once you have conquered this site you may try to look at other green blogs. They overall colors, convenience, and messages this blog is portraying makes it an all around a great blog. I just may bookmark it and come back to read more.
ReplyDeleteAfter browsing the Go Green Blog, it is obvious that the blog provides good environmentally friendly tips and news for its readers. The first thing noticed on the site is its visual appeal. The background is, as you would imagine, green. The website art includes wind turbines, trees, a river and flowers. The art brings forth the ideas of alternative energy, waste reduction, and environmental production, all of which the website addresses. The website is well organized with tabs for every sub-section in the blog. The organization allows for user to find the information they are looking for quickly as opposed to searching through all old blog posts. The information posted on the blog can be helpful to all different types of people. With the basic topics of Recycling, Energy and Eco-products, there are most likely items of interest for every user. Meanwhile, topics such as Family and Green Crafts give access to mothers and children to join the “Green” cause. With the most recent example of Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs, the blog includes activities to spark family interests. In this way, the Go Green Blog targets all people to live a more eco-friendly life.
ReplyDeleteOne problem that I noticed with the website is its amount of information. The dates of the blog appear to show the blog posts approximately once every week. Compared to other blogs, this is a small amount of content. Only occasionally updating posts does not make the users want to return often to the site. At the same time, the blog is not offering many innovative “green” ideas. With the large amounts of “green” products for sale, and many more being created daily, the website has numerous amounts of content to choose from. The website could be more productive by updating it more regularly and posting more innovative and educational posts.
After reading skimming through TheGoGreenBlog.com, I realize that it is not a place where people go to criticize the government or society, but a place where people can inform others about ways to go green. The posts include ways to use less products that are harmful to the planet and projects that will reduce the carbon foot print of readers. There are many good ideas posted, but one post that caught my attention was a post about Magniwork. The post just talks about this product, which is a fifty page manual that instructs people how to build a “magnetic perpetual motion” machine, and includes a link to their website. Seeing a machine of this caliber, I was extremely interested in what was going on here. I checked out their website and found a page that included a short film, a very elementary flowchart, and a link to buy the product for $49. The page does not show data of the product working, but rather anecdotes from consumers. In addition, it said that it is being suppressed by corporate energy distributors. In their explanation they mention that it is a zero point generator, i.e. a machine that can harness zero point energy. With lack of experimental data, blaming corporate companies, and saying that their machine is a zero point generator, which would be the first of its kind and be highly valuable, but not supporting the theory tells me that this is not credible. Seeing that the blog has posted about the product and endorsing it tells me that the posts do not undergo a lot of scrutiny. In my view, the ethos of the writer(s), I’m not sure if there is only one or more writers, is not very high.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I just want to say that I try and do all I can to be as green as I can. When I opened up the blog site, the colors jumped off the page, they were bright and welcoming. The color scheme, obviously green, was a great choice for the topics discussed. The blogs range from facts about going green, or even little tips that any individual could do to go green, themselves. For the world to go green, it is going to take a lot of work. But, if we do a little work over a period of time, going green would be easier. The blog about cutting kitchen waste was very interesting. I have noticed that even television shows on the food network have begun to share these tips, too. Like using your leftovers in multiple recipes, and not eating cheap food that just comes in a box. The top 5 New Year’s Eco Resolutions was inspiring to me. The tasks that they have listed seem to be easy to do. But, if you really sit down and think about them, how many of those do you actually think about doing? I work at a grocery store, and people buy reusable bags all the time, but when they come through my line, 8 out of 10, end up saying, “oh shoot, I forgot my reusable bags at home, I’ll just take plastic bags.” If each individual could work on one of these resolutions, going green would be a piece of cake. Overall, the site is very inspiring to me, and I think that the little tips for people is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteYou all have some very interesting insights. Many of you seem to enjoy the layout and organization of this blog. I look forward to discussing this blog in class.
ReplyDeleteThe minute I started looking through this blog, I knew right off the bat that it accomplishes its goal. They put out information in a clear and organized way. None of the articles really say you need to do that but more give you helpful tips to follow for a "greener earth". The articles are not only informational but they also include statics as to why certain actions are eco-friendly. To me, this is a very important aspect on attracting readers to ones blog. Another thing that attracts the eye to this website is the color scheme. The website chose a bright green and a light baby blue. The obvious reason they chose green as their main color is first off because the website is "go green" but also because the entire purpose of the blog is to be more eco-friendly (as the title states). However they could have chosen a kelly green or a standard green but instead they picked a bright green therefore making it stand out on the page and more appealing to the eye. The trees and flowers on the banner of the web page also (at least for me) makes the reader continue to explore the website. Also, the articles give facts to back up what they are saying which gives the blog credibility thus making their cause work. Overall I felt this website was put together nicely and their cause would be a appealing to anyone because of the way they present themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I noticed about the blog was the color. Going with the theme of "Goiung Green", they decided to use green as the primary color along with blue and white. The colors blue and white symbolize the environment and are good secondary choices for this website.
ReplyDeleteThe next thing I noticed was how organized and clean this website was, especially compared to last week's website. It is very easy to navigate through the site and find the information that you want. The articles are very simple to read and simple to do. It shows how easy it is to do little things that will help you "Go Green". The author did this because people generally like things to be easy to do. They are discouraged by things that are too hard to do. This will get more people to participate in activities that will help our environment.
The website is family oriented. The audience is everyone, from kids to adults. It goes along with my last point about the author of this website wanting as many people as possible getting involved in as many green activities as possible.
Unlike the last website we looked at, this website is more about informing people of ways to become green rather then starting discussions with various activist topics. There are not nearly as many comments on this website as the last one. This website focuses on the how to make a difference rather then just talking about.
Ever since eighth grade when we first really learned about global warming and the fact that it really was a big problem and we needed to help the world repair itself I have tried to do my part. Most of the lights in my house are fluorescent and we always turn off lights when we aren't in the room as well as not leaving the water running and trying to take quicker showers. I know there is more I can do or could've done and I am glad there is a blog to help people do these things and many more. I just wish more people were able to see this. I love the set-up and the design of the page with green headings and boarders and even little pictures of power generators we can use to help conserve energy. They have topics for everyday and even special occasions like St. Patrick's Day and Easter. I really liked the blog about biking and love seeing so much being done to make this change. Many people are now biking also as a way of exercise, but I'm glad to see this is happening in the world today and able to save the planet as we go. I think this is a fantastic blog and more people need to see it!
ReplyDeleteThe moment I arrived at thegogreenblog.com, my eyes were quickly drawn to the abundance of green used throughout the layout. The banner, post headings, and the illustration at the top all boast the vibrant colors that the environmental movement has so appropriately identified with. Such a decision by the website designer seems obvious, for it affectively illustrates the color most often associated with the earth and the environment itself. The secondary color, blue, is used for any hotlinks and the dates of all the posts. Blue when thought of from a nature viewpoint most often brings about the thought of water or the sky. A bright blue is even used to illustrate a clear sky at the top of the blog. Combining the colors of blue and green further pronounce the subject of the blog, protecting the environment. The design isn’t distracting though, and doesn’t target one particular audience. Everyone on this earth uses the environment, and an environmental color scheme can resonate with anyone. The colors are vibrant and eye-catching, and almost make the audience imagine what the view out their window could look if they lived more environmentally friendly. The design is effective in making an obvious statement about the author’s opinion on environmentalism, as if the blog’s title wasn’t enough. Overall, the design helps highlight the underlying messages presented in the blog posts and adds a nice visual appeal.
ReplyDeletefirstly, i have to say the website is really green and the color display have already let all people know which theme it holds. also, there're too many categories on the top of the site that really inspiration which not like "blahblah"boring things. the first article about drying egg is really cute that even i would try it sometime maybe. from these details about life i feel close to energy saving because i've ever known about that before like which is related so many subtle things.
ReplyDeletei like this green blog mostly because it is not just told me some serious and sad things that about our world is in danger now or how bad situation we are in. instead of that, it's a kind of positive and courageous to attract me involving in these small activities. furthermore, from diversity of ways of informing us how's going on in the world now about saving energy, pictures and videos can achieve the directly effects that clearly conveying the central ideas.
i thought 'GO green" is a informative website and is full of novel thinking so that not only we can know from it, but can be part of it.
There is a vivid memory about go green when I flashback to my high school time. Like many other high school students, my friends and I, just took all the efforts that my teachers and school staffs strive for saving our planet, for granted. We did not care the posters, the seminars and the go green activities conducted in our school. For me, go green was just all about boring stuffs like throwing waste to rubbish bin, turning off the lights when it was unused, and using water wisely.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when I browsed thegogreenblog.com, I was surprised that I found myself enjoying in reading the blogs. I did not know that go green could be as exciting as we can make our own earrings from unused credit card. This is really awesome! This is the way to go green while we do it in a cool way. I believe this article is really useful, not only to aid promoting go green, but also to change the perception of go green from being dull to a fun, cool and creative activity. I will definitely tell my friends and try to make our own earrings for our next hang out. I may also come back to this blog just to catch up with updates. Besides the earrings blog, I also like the blog teaching how to dye Easter eggs in natural way by using vegetable and fruit. They even provide a video to demonstrate to viewers the process how to make it. This may encourage the bloggers to be more active; not only passively observing the blog and agree with it in their mind, but to put it in a real action.
To wrap up, I think this blog is absolutely informative and constructive. I like the type of information provided as it affects people’s knowledge, values and ideas. The nine categories are a plus that viewers can just instantly click based on their specific interests and needs. This is really effective and efficient that it may expand viewers to a wider range of people coming from all walks of life. Yet, I find there is one thing that this blog lacks of: the quantity. It seems that a blog is posted for approximately every four to five days in average. The contributors may want to be more intensive in posting blogs so that it may encourage people to more actively involve in go green.
When i first go to the blog i automatically think "green". The color scheme of having green for go-green is obvious, but still genius. The top of the blog with the trees, windmills, and grassy green hills portrays a picture that appeals to a lot of people. it is a calm scenery that conveys this sense of tranquility.
ReplyDeleteAll of the articles are go green focused. Many have how to steps on different ways to go green like how to make organic easter egg color dye, how to waste less while getting wasted, tips on cutting waste in the kitchen tips, etc.
Overall the blog is full of interesting fun articles that people enjoy reading and learning about. The blog is easy on the eyes, so it does not have a lot of wordy paragraphs that people automatically think in their heads "i do not want to read this." The types of go green methods that are seen on this website are very diverse. They have everything from beer, to guitar pick earrings, iphones, and easter eggs. The ideas shared here are innovated and very appealing to both younger and older generations.
The blog has a lot of videos on it, which i think is very helpful for the website. The videos appeal to both visual and listening learners. The are also a great thing to have when people just do not feel like reading. The space the videos take up on the blog is also really good because it leaves white space in the background so the blog looks more spacious. This effect makes it more appealing and inviting to viewers.
Thank you all for your comments! Everyone had very interesting things to say. Keep all of your ideas in mind when we discuss in class today and we appreciate all of you checking out The Go Green Blog!
ReplyDeleteThe blogs colors of bright green and a sky blue color automatically give people a hint on what the website is all about, which is going green. Also, the pictures of the trees, hills, an windmills sort of display a calm, ideal scenery for many people. I also really like all of the categories at the top of the website so you can focus on solely what you want to. WIth the categories, you don't need to scroll through a bunch of posts that do not interest you, you can specifically focus on what you want to.
ReplyDeleteI also liked how the posts aren't so down like a lot of go green sites are. The site shows positive, easy things to do to help go green instead of focusing on all of the negative things that we are doing to hurt our planet. I really liked the eco friendly easter egg dye recipe because dying easter eggs is something that millions of people do. I like how it openly has the recipe written out and it is something so easy that you can do while having fun with family and friends.
The blog also features many videos and pictures that go with the sites bright color. I think that this is very attractive to the eye and is a great idea. Overall, I think that the blog has a great layout and provides its readers with great information.
One part of this blog that I found very interesting was the tips section. Today, "going green" is very important. Sometimes it can be hard to completely change your lifestyle to meet the needs of a completey green life. This tip section gave ideas of little thinkgs you can do that will impact our planet in a positive way. One tip that I found very interesting was to use a reusable straw. After reading that, I realized how many straws I have probably thrown away in my life time. Doing this little thing could have a big impact on the amount of trash I produce. I liked that there were tips that anyone could relate to. There were tips for kids such as the dying eggs or for adults such as baking a Thanksgiving. Since our planet is currently suffering from the effects of global warming, it is important that we try to be a green as possible. We should try to share this blog with as many people as possible to try to teach others about what they can do to help our planet.
