America is the land of the free and we pride ourselves on that. http://www.aclu.org/blog is all about the rights of the people. It's loaded with different articles and videos for you to watch...along with different opinions. Check it out and tell us what you think. We're excited to hear your opinion.
Although as soon as I clicked the blog I saw it is rather plain looking, with grey, tan, blue and a little bit of orange, the first thing that I saw was “BLOG OF RIGHTS” which essentially is what the blog is about. The bold blue writing outline in white definitely makes the title stick out and you know exactly what you will be reading about as soon as you access the webpage.
ReplyDeleteThe blog has a lot of information on it. The titles to the articles are very helpful and summarize the articles with just a few words. Many of the titles caught my attention and I actually ended up reading some, such as, “Cop Breaks a Kid’s Arm and Tasers Him. His Offense? Saggy Pants” and “If You Get Raped, You Better Keep a Receipt.” The articles are very diverse and cover a lot of civil right topics. The video clips and photographs are also very informative for those readers who don’t want to read the long articles, but just want a quick peak about what the article is about.
I find that the fact that the blog is written by a credible source, the American Civil Liberties Union, makes the blog very trustworthy and legitimate. This obviously affects the ethos of the blog. Also, I find the fact that the blog is connected to very well known social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter makes the blog more credible. A lot of people use these websites and therefore I think it is a good way to get more people to know about the blog and participate. The links on the sides of the page make the blog very organized and also adds more helpful information.
Overall I think this blog is very well set up and very accurate and informative. It definitely does something. It advises the public on many civil rights and accomplishes its goal.
Glad you enjoyed it. Hope everyone else likes it.
ReplyDeleteUnlike other blogs that were inactive or didn't keep up to date with their posts, this blog is definitely on top of things. The recent blog on May 5th about Osama's death popped out to me- a teacher telling her student, "I heard about your uncle's death"... This blog definitely delivers the issues that this society has today.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, although the "Blog of Rights" isn't extremely appealing to the eye, I think it's very professional, and it's easy to notice that they are serious about getting information out to their audience. I like the organization as well. The topics on the side are simple for looking up a certain blog about a certain theme.
When I clicked on the history, I read that ACLU has been around since the 1920s, and has more than 500,000 members. Searching around, I noticed that their first blogs were from 2004. In conclusion, this blog definitely isn't amateur and seems to me that they know what they're doing. Like Abbey said, it's very credible and informational. I think that plays a huge part in influencing people to explore their blog, because it's a place where you can trust what you're reading is true.
When first examining the blog, it appears to be laid out in a common, easy to read fashion. It has all sorts of categories that readers and followers can choose from. It has many different issues that interest all sorts of people. For example there are issues pertaining to free speech, HIV/AIDS, national security and many types of civil rights. Civil rights include voting rights, women’s rights and even immigrant’s rights. The blog has issues that pertain to a variety of people and it is evident that they are attempting to communicate to a widespread of people in order to gain attention and followers. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) blog site has many articles and it appears to be updated almost daily. Its articles are interesting and pertain to many topics that mostly include civil rights, justice and equality. It is interesting to notice that there are ACLU’s all over the United States, but there is not one for Ohio. Another interesting point of the site is very informational because it not only has up to date articles that are posted almost daily, but also has an archive center that has all of its records categorized by the year. The archives date back to the 2004’s and are fairly complete with articles from almost every day of that year. Another reason that it is an evident and up to date blog site is that they have links to social networking sites that actually keep them in the loop with followers. According to the site, the ACLU has a Youtube, Twitter and Facebook account. This is an important feature in today’s society considering the fact that young and even some old users are able to network within the community of the ACLU and continue their discussion further. Having the capability to interact within the blog site makes it a well produced site, but if you can congregate and meet others with the same interests outside of the site by using social media such as facebook and twitter makes it a great site.
ReplyDeleteI have really enjoyed reading and examining this blog. The credibility of it is established immediately, with the ACLU being known nationally and respected throughout. This blog is exactly what you would expect from a civil liberty union website: formal, informative, and broad. All the posts came off to me as very professional without any spelling errors or middle-school grammar. There are no Justin Bieber or pop culture pointless posts either. In fact, nearly all the posts I read I genuinely enjoyed reading about and were highly informative of current civil cases. The posts are obviously biased towards the worker and the individual, but they clearly establish their arguments and viewpoints without being blinded completely by their bias. ACLU’s issues are directed toward a certain type of audience and this blog does a good job identifying with that audience. There aren’t any flashy pictures or needless fluff. The blog is appropriate for law offices or the politically involved. As well as appropriate, the blog is updated frequently. Overall, I feel the ACLU blog is a great site for those who are working to better civil liberties.
ReplyDeleteThe American Civil Liberties Union “Blog of Rights” is undoubtedly the best blog viewed this quarter. The interface of the blog is highly organized. With archives of all the previous blog entries and recent entries on the right panel for quick access, the blog is helping the reader find what they are looking for in a quick and effective manner. The title banner of the blog is simple, showing in bold face the title and the “BLOG OF RIGHTS BECAUSE FREEDOM CAN’T BLOG ITSELF.” The all capitalized font helps to draw the attention of the reader and attempts to convey the purpose of the blog. From this title, the purpose of the blog is to provide stories about freedom and liberties during the twenty-first century. The left hand side of the webpage contains categories and more information about the ACLU. The accessibility of the information on this site adds to the credibility of the blog.
ReplyDeleteAnother nicety about the blog is the amount of entries per day. Compared to a few blogs a month that have previously been analyzed, this blog updates multiple times per day. The lengths of the entries are considerably long, providing the reader with enough information to convey the message of the blog yet maintain the interest of the reader. Overall, the ACLU “Blog of Rights” is effective due to the information provided and the organization of the page. With many entries pertaining to different areas of civil rights every day, the authors are allowing the readers to become informed about the current issues in the United States. The organization of the blog allows the reader to easily obtain more entries about a specific or broad topic.
The first thing that I noticed when I entered this blog was the ethos of this site. Even at first glance, the blog seems very credible and trustworthy. The archives also showed how long this blog has been running. It must be doing something good if it has stayed for this long. This being said, it really made me want to read the blog posts and hear what they had to say about current issues in our country. I really like how often the blog is updated. The blog is keeping its viewers up to date on what is occuring throughout the United States. All of the issues are current so it is a good way to hear what is going on right now, not months ago. I also really liked the category section on the left side of the page. This made it easy to sort out what I wanted to read about. Being in college, I tend to not watch the news as much as when I am at home. I think that this could be a good alternative to watching news. One category that I really enjoyed was the capital punishment section. I am really interested in this topic and they had a lot of really interesting articles about this. One thing that I wish this blog had was an ACLU of Ohio. I would have really enjoyed reading about current issues in Ohio. Hopefully someday this will happen and people will be able to read about Ohio. Overall, I was very impressed with this blog. I thought it was one of the most credible and impresive blogs we have looked at this year and I really enjoyed looking at this blog.
ReplyDeletewith its highly organized and user-friendly, i can get in it easily. the color of layout is simple and appropriate and sections it covers are clear enough to give readers correct direction to things they want to know. in the top part, i like the slides of updates of this blog. the big fonts and attractive title also catch my eyes about what is going on recently. not only the blog update i found, but the news and other related things are also included so that its comprehensive information about civil rights definitely deserve the attention from public. another thing i notice is resource centre, in which you can get anything closed to no matter our daily life or authority documents around civil rights. this kind of professional the blog holds can really effectively absorb the followers who may not care about civil rights and freedom before. it totally help me to acquaintance the main issues about topics of freedom in some degree. in addition, the key issues part also explicit the different aspects which civil rights covered. actually before i saw the categories of civil right, i did not realize the wide range it have reached. overall, this blog indeed inform me every detail about civil rights and really interests me so i would love to become one of the followers in future days.
ReplyDeleteGreat comments everyone. You all seem to really enjoy it cannot wait to hear more about what you all have to say in class tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWhen first looking at the blog, even though the colors are somewhat dull, it looks professional. It is extremely well organized and the categories in the side bar provide the reader with a chance to narrow down what they want to read out. I also think that the title is very catchy and how it refers to the Bill of Rights with the name Blog of Rights. It sets the tone on what the blog is going to talk about and is a bold title. After reading some posts, I noticed how well written and professional each post is. I really like that the blog is written from the American Civil Liberties Union because it shows that each post is linked with their name. This means that every single post is credible because ACLU is highly respected. Due to ACLU's credibility, the reader can trust every word in every post, knowing that it came from a respectable, credible source. I also really like the recent entries side bar on the blog page. This keeps the reader updated on what is going on and what is important enough for ACLU to post something about it. Another thing I like is in the top right corner there are links to click to take you to ACLU's website, to join ACLU, how to take action, how to donate, and to learn more about ACLU and what it's about. I clicked on all of the links and they are all exactly what their titles say they are. They directly give the information wanted and make it easy for the reader to understand. I think that it is great that through this blog, ACLU wants to give the readers a chance to become involved and be apart of or just understand what they are all about. Overall, I think that the blog is very credible and has great information and articles on it.
ReplyDeleteI love the layout of this site. It is so well organized and it is clear they put a lot of effort and thought into the production of this blog. To me, this creats a strong sense of ethos for the writers. The fact that the very first impression led me to believe this was a legitimate page, and got me interested in checking out what they have to say is a key seller for me. I love how they give you the options to select a particular category of blog or issue you are interested in. This helps a ton in navigating the page. Another piece of ethos I see is the list of other blogs that are from the same source, in different states. The fact that this blog is doing so well in so many states gives it great credibility. Overall, I am very pleased with this blogs design and layout.
ReplyDeleteThe organization of this site as well as the layout is great. Although it may not be eyecatching, it seems very professional. They keep up to date on their posts, unlike some of the others blogs we have looked at. They are serious about getting their message across to us, and I really enjoyed this blog. I like how they have so many members, and how they have been around so long. You can definately tell this is credible, and that they are going to post on it a lot. The title goes along well with the color scheme, and it's known what this blog is about right at the start. It was professional and enjoyable at the same time.
ReplyDeletethe first thing that catches my eye when i look at this blog is the picture of lady liberty and the phrase: "because freedom can't blog itself". Lady liberty is an icon of freedom, which shows what this blog is all about. Letting each and every individual have the rights they deserve in order to obtain true freedom. the phrase they put under their blogs title is comedic. The humorous nature of it makes it more appealing and it makes me more eager to actually take the time and read what it says. they have funny titles for articles as well, which are great hooks to make me want to read them, such as: "for mothers day, screw chocolate, give us equality!" that line cracks me up and makes me want to read what the article is about. the majority of the articles tie into civil rights and most of them are very opinionated. The articles range from funny to dead serious, which is a good range to reach out to a wider audience. the serious articles, such as the one about a 15 year old boy being tasered for having his pants sagging, is the kind of article that really makes people want to get involved. when i read it, it made me angry and really captured my interest in this cause. Overall this blog is very appealing and informative and does a great job of influencing readers!
ReplyDeleteThe title “Blog of Rights” caught my eyes when first time I clicked on the webpage. The header was outstanding with a striking blue font color on a very contrast background of light gray. I like the way the author designed the appearance of the title as this feature may be the most important aspect to create a good first impression to initiate the curiosity and interest of readers. The layout of the webpage is conventional and simple eventhough at first glance, I found it dull and boring. Soon I realized that this was a human rights blog so this plain looking template made sense and was essential to build a strong credibility as a trustable human rights activist blog. This credibility, of course, not merely comes from the header layout, but most importantly, from information presented by the bloggers. I found that the articles were updated daily which meant that contributors were consistent to keep the readers up to date with the most current news related to human rights. Besides, the posts are informative and educative as they provide lots of useful facts to give readers new insights and perspectivse of what and how human perceive many kinds of human rights issues. Apart from that, I want to point out the small box with words at the right top of each title posts. If we move our cursors to the box, we can click on them and it will direct us to a new page which has the full list of other articles under the same category. This is really efficient for readers who want to read other related articles without having to scroll the page up and goes to the left tab to access this feature. In brief, I really enjoy reading the blog. This is really a good blog.
ReplyDeleteWhen first viewing blog, it became very obvious what the blog was about. The large header titled “Blog of Rights-because freedom can’t blog itself” makes their purpose very clear but does not suggest to what kind of rights they support. After further reading of the posts, I discovered that this blog seems to cover many different types of rights and does not focus on one in particular. This variety makes the blog more applicable to all readers and makes it more interesting to read, rather than reading about the same thing over and over. To make the searching process easier, this blog has also made it so you can search articles by category or by year and even provides a quick search box which allows the viewers to search for a key word. Unlike many other blogs we have viewed, this blog seems to not stray away from its main goal and tends to stay focused on the topic of civil rights. The appearance of this site is very welcoming and looks very professional. The organization, American Civil Liberties Union, sponsoring this website increases its credibility even further. This website is also user friendly because it has connections to many social networks such as facebook, twitter, etc. The only bad thing about this blog is its lack of comments. This seemed odd to me because of its professional look, but maybe it is not attracting viewers due to its somewhat bland layout. If the author used more lively colors and more images it may attract more attention.
ReplyDeleteBefore going onto the site, I wasn't initially too thrilled about the topic. I've never been interested in civil rights and politics. But after scanning a few of the blog posts and their titles, I was suprised at how it caught even my attention. Yes, the colors were pretty dull. But why put bright, fun colors? The layout is very professional and appropriate for this topic of activism and for the blog in particular. The organization seems pretty credible from what I could see. I also enjoyed how even though the posts were pretty wordy, the editors included humor and sarcasm which made it much more interesting to read and engage in. I believe that this was done on purpose to attract a broader audience, especially college students like me that aren't experts when it comes to politics and rights.
ReplyDeleteI really like this blog you have found and I agree with Emory ideas about the title. “Blog of Rights-because freedom can’t blog itself” is like say that the authors are helping freedom to blog itself. This title really make the readers want to read more in this blog and finally find out what kind the right this blog is really talking about. Also, another reason I like this blog is that this blog is very timely and well organised. The first article was on May 13 and there are 7 articles on that day in total, just one day before today. I also find something posted on May 12. These show that the authors probably renew the blog everyday.
ReplyDeleteHowever, one thing which is a little bit disappointing me is that the white color makes my eyes tired. I think if the authors of this blog can make this blog a little bit colorful, it will be much better.
