  1. The first thing that popped off the page for me was the picture in the header. It is definitely an attention grabber, however alone it does not show what the blog is about, but once you read the title you a better understand. I think that the picture is a great way of showing how provocative this blog is and how they are not the least bit worried about what people think about what they have to say, they are there to prove a point. I also found the categories section on the right hand side of the page very interesting. They have such a broad range of topics that they have posted on from drugs to love. I also noticed that this is not a new blog their archive dates back to March of 2005, while this may not make them any more of a credible source it does show that they are not amateurs. Another great thing I think about this blog is how there is a picture or video from almost every article on the homepage of the blog. These help to grab the attention of the audience and make them want to read the article. Also I noticed that the articles received few very if any comments.

  2. What I like about this website is that the posts aren't in your face. The writers are simply talking about topics involved in homosexuality, and they're not shoving it down our throat, it's just stating their personal opinion, which plays on the rhetoric of the website. It makes the whole feel more inviting and conversational. The same goes with the header. They're putting a little humor into the website, and like Tiffany said, they definitely don't care what others may think.
I also noticed that this blog site isn't limited to just discussing gay rights and issues. For example, one post dealt with marijuana, another about Matthew Morrison, and more on hot topics about celebrities and such.
This is a very well organized, planned out blog. And you know that the owners know what they're doing since it's been around for more than ten years.

  3. After spending some time previewing the Daily Dose of Queer Blog, the site has many interesting features. The site has a plain, neutral background that adds to the power of the pictures and videos. The blog is full of interesting pictures and videos that draw the attention of the viewer. Instead of the all text blogs we have seen before, the site has many images and pictures which is easier for the viewer to read. The banner of the blog has an image of hairy, obviously male, legs wearing a tutu. The man also seems to have his nails painted pink. The boldness of the banner immediately introduces the viewer to the theme of the blog, if it was not understood by the name of the blog.
One problem with the effectiveness of the blog is the regularity of posts. Although the blog contains great information and news posts, regularity of posts ranges from every few days to every few weeks. In addition, the posts do not contain many comments. This seems to indicate that not many users are reading the news. Another organizational feature of the blog is its archives. The blog has an archive of posts from March 2005 to now. This shows that the blog has been around awhile and must be useful and effective. Overall, the site has good organization and interesting posts. With additions of more regular posts and a better system for commenting, the website could improve its efficacy.

  4. This blog is immediately attention grabbing. The first image I saw was a picture of “gay Jesus”. The article that went along with it spoke of homosexuality and Christians. It mentions the hypocrisy of Christians being offended when their faith is mocked by the gay community. While, from the other side Christians repeatedly condemns gay marriage and adoption. This article makes people aware there are two sides for two different lifestyles. The author makes valid arguments that convince the reader to see a different point of view. It opens the reader eyes. This blog also does a good job of not being overstated. Considering the banner is of a man in a light pink tutu, it is better the creator kept the layout simple. It has a simple white background and grey headlines. The banner draws enough attention to the blog; with more detail it would be very distracting and less professional. This blog also has a side bar with a wide variety of topics that encourages a larger audience. This blog is a helpful source to those who may be struggling with their sexuality. It approaches problem s in a delicate manner, especially with things such as meth addiction. It does not condemn but rather encourages.

  5. I agree with what you all said about the header being not so in your face. The author keeps it simple, and that way it is inviting to those who may be struggling with their sexuality, or even just want to read about homosexuality in general. We look forward to hear what you have to say on Tuesday! (:

  6. When first viewing dailydoseofqueer.com it quickly became clear what this blog was about, even though the name of the blog its self gives much of it away. The main image of the website is at confusing at first until you realize that the person wearing the pink ballerina dress is actually a man (because of the hairy legs). Although this part of the image alone has a lot of meaning, the rest of the image seems to be useless. I cannot seem to find a reason for using an antique theme for this website, so it may be just the creator’s choice. After scrolling down through the titles of the articles and briefly scanning through a few, it becomes obvious that this is definitely a blog for gays. Although it doesn’t seem to focus much on the rights of gays, it focuses more on the daily lifestyle and humor for that group of people. Although this website is updated about every week or so, there seem to be very little comments. I found this interesting because it seems like a well put together website with a professional look. It also is user friendly due to its quick search box and organization of articles by date or category. The blog also has a clean layout and makes the website very easy to follow. Overall, I think this blog does a good job of targeting the gay community and gives a source of entertainment without focusing on the more serious issues of gay activism.

  7. Upon reaching the Daily Dose of Queer blog, the first thing I noticed was the banner. The banner is unique and does an excellent job at representing what the blog is about and its objective. I found this site somewhat of a refresher from the previous blogs in their gray and white background color scheme. It made the highly controversial topic more approachable and after I was past the banner, it made reading the blog posts easier. The downside to this was that after a short while I got bored of reading the posts. Also, it was a little difficult to see where each post started and stopped while I was scrolling down through the site. Each individual post was not very well defined. I read a couple of posts and I think that they are all written by one author, but I am not sure and could not find out. The posts themselves pertain to the blog very well and are presented in a much laid back way. The author is not afraid of voicing their opinion and tends to make unexpected comparisons of things, like the rapture being like a ninja. Overall I feel that this blog is on the right track to becoming a great non serious but informational blog.

  9. Right away, this blog captures my attention; the header is very interesting and appealing to the eye. It also is a clear indicator as to what this blog is going to be about. Also the layout of the blog is very organized and attractive. I especially love how it is broken up into categories along the side of the blog; that makes it easier to navigate the blog if a person is looking to read about a certain topic. If you continue down the side, they break it up by dates which is also a smart tactic. However, the headliners of the articles did not catch my eye whatsoever. The could be more bold with more color so they stick out from the rest of the blog. However the titles are catchy, interesting, and make me want to read the blog. Overall, the blog does accomplish their goal in getting information out there about the glbt community.

  10. The daily dose of queer is an interesting blog. It is very diverse in its topics, while remaining to keep the attention focused on issues pertaining to the gay, bisexual and transgender community. They seem to subtly hint the reasoning behind creating the blog through the topics raised and the pictures used on the site. The first picture is very interesting, but not an overstatement. They seem to incorporate the gay community with the blog by using the pictures presented in the blog. The opening banner is definitely eye-catching, but it does not make too bold of a statement. I believe that it was important for the site to use this kind of subtlety when trying to advocate awareness for their blog, because you want to reach out and expand your targeted audience. When it comes to the touchy subjects involving the gay and lesbian community, it is important to reach out to a broad audience and attempt to keep their attention with loose facts and not try to force it down their throat. The site also does a good job at picking their topics wisely. When it comes to the articles presented in the blog, some of them are directly related to the gay and lesbian community, while others simply are for enjoyment and may or may not pertain to the gay or lesbian community at all. This is important as well when trying to target a broad, general audience. Overall the site does a great job at attempting to reach out to a broad community, and spread awareness for the gay, lesbian and transgender community. It is very subtle when it comes to its advocacy and seems to approach the situations lightly so that they don’t steer people away. It is a very interesting site and seems to reach out to a large group of people and keeps people’s attention without steering their viewers away with obscene articles and pictures.

  11. The thing that I liked about this website is that it gives people the chance to comment and look at other people that may or may not be like them. Personally it gives me a chance to see certain things that I was not allowed to view as a child. Being able to express my own personal thoughts and opinions on such things without having to hear someone else thoughts about how might become. I also like some of the creative pictures that was presented on the web site.
This site did a very well trying to reach out to so many people that are all unique.

  12. I like this blog very much because of the interesting header. It points out the main idea of this blog to the audience right at the beginning, which really catching people's eyes. this blog contains great information and news which are closed related with the Homosexuality. What I think is that if this blog can have a little improvement on organisation, it will be better.
